Someone in our community WhatsApp group sent a message last Tuesday at 7:43am: “Guys. Police just stopped me near Business Bay. Took my scooter. What do I do?”
Twenty-three replies came in within minutes. Half were wrong. One said leave it. Another said it was gone forever.
It’s not gone. But the official guidance sends you to Al Barsha Traffic Department first — which turns out to be a wasted trip. A community member who went through the whole process shared the real steps. That’s what this guide is based on.
⚠️ Time-Sensitive — Read This First
You have 30 days. After that it gets auctioned.
Official policy is 30 days before the scooter can go to auction. One rider in our community waited 92 days and only got it back because an officer at Counter 10 went out of his way to track it down manually. He waited 2 hours at the impound. The scooter came back covered in sand. Don’t rely on luck. Start this process today.
The Real Process — Skip Al Barsha, Go Straight to Warsan
Here’s what happens when most people call 901: they get told to go to Al Barsha Traffic Department. So they go. And Al Barsha tells them to pay the fine online — something they could have done from home — then sends them to the actual impound lot in Warsan. That’s a wasted half-day.
Here’s what to do instead:
✅ The Verified 6-Step Recovery Process
Community-confirmed · Works as of Q2 2026
1
Pay your fine online — before you leave home Do this first
Go to the Dubai Police website and pay using the fine number from the SMS Dubai Police sent you. The standard fine is AED 220. If you haven’t got the SMS, search by Emirates ID on the Dubai Police app — all fines linked to your ID will show. Don’t show up at the impound without having done this first; they’ll send you away to do it.
2
Go to Emirates Parking impound lot — Warsan The actual location
This is where your scooter is. Not Al Barsha. Not your nearest police station. Emirates Parking in Warsan. Map and directions below.
3
Building 2 → Reception → collect the scooter impound form Start here
When you arrive at the facility, go to Building 2 first. Speak to reception and ask for the scooter impound form. Fill it in — you’ll need your Emirates ID and the fine reference number.
4
Building 1 → Counter 10 The key step
Take your completed form to Building 1 and go to Counter 10. This is where your case is processed and where they locate and confirm your scooter for release. If your scooter has been there a long time or can’t be found immediately, the officer at Counter 10 is the person who can help. Be patient and polite — it makes a difference.
5
Back to Building 2 → Pay AED 52 parking fee AED 52
Return to Building 2 and pay the parking fee at the cashier. It’s AED 52. Card accepted. Keep the receipt — you may need to show it at the release point.
6
Wait for your scooter to be retrieved
Once payment clears, they’ll pull your scooter from the lot. Allow time for this — the lot is large. The scooter will likely be dusty and sandy; it’s been sitting outdoors. Inspect it before you sign anything and arrange transport home in advance. Don’t plan to ride away from the impound.

“I called 901, and they asked me to head to the Barsha Traffic Department. I did that, and it was a waste of time. They asked me to pay the fine online, which I had already done. And they then asked me to head to the impound lot in Warsan… I waited 92 days, and they could not find it initially. Thankfully the dude at Counter 10 vibed with me, and he offered to give me his number in case they did find it. He called me 40 minutes later and told me they found it. I paid AED 52 for ‘parking’ fees. Not sure where it was parked. It was covered in dirt and sand. Fair enough for 95-day parking.”

Why Do Dubai Police Confiscate E-Scooters?
Understanding the reason yours was taken matters — it determines your fine amount, what you need to fix before riding again, and whether the same thing will happen twice.
🛣️
Riding on a road or highway Most common
E-scooters are not permitted on any road used by motor vehicles in Dubai — not even quiet residential streets. If cars use it, you cannot ride there. See exactly where you can and can’t ride.
📋
No valid RTA e-scooter permit Very common
An offence on its own since 2023. Officers scan the permit QR code at checkpoints. Takes 15 minutes to get — apply here before your next ride.
⛑️
No helmet Common
AED 200 fine and grounds for confiscation during the same stop. No exemptions for short distances.
🚀
Exceeding 20 km/h Growing
Legal limit in all permitted zones. Officers at JBR and Al Qudra use handheld speed devices during peak hours. See the full fines breakdown.
🔞
Rider under 16 Common in communities
Minimum age is 16. Scooter taken on the spot. Fine issued to a parent or guardian who then needs to collect it.

Multiple violations at the same stop get fined separately. Riding on a road + no permit + no helmet = three fines added together before the AED 52 is added. For exact amounts per violation see the 2026 fines breakdown.
✓ Note on the parking fee
The AED 52 at Warsan appears to be a flat fee, not daily — even the rider who waited 92 days paid AED 52. That said, the 30-day auction risk is the real deadline to worry about, not the parking cost.
What Happens If You Wait Past 30 Days
Officially: after 30 days the scooter can be sent to auction.
In practice: a community member waited 92 days and still recovered it — but only because an officer at Counter 10 manually searched the system and called him back 40 minutes later. That is a best-case exception, not the rule.
⚠️ If you’re already past 30 days
Go to Warsan in person. Go directly to Building 1, Counter 10. Ask them to check manually. Be patient, be polite, bring all your documents. It may still be there — but it is not guaranteed, and you’re relying on goodwill rather than policy at that point.
FAQ
Do I have to go to Al Barsha Traffic Department first?
No. Skip it entirely. Calling 901 will tell you to go there, but Al Barsha only verifies your fine is paid and redirects you to Warsan. Pay the fine online from home and go straight to Emirates Parking in Warsan.
Can I collect the same day it was confiscated?
Possibly, but it may not be at Warsan yet. The scooter needs to be transported and logged in. If you arrive and it’s not showing in the system, come back the next day. Day 2 or 3 is safer.
I never got an SMS with a fine number. What now?
Open the Dubai Police app or go to dp.gov.ae and search by your Emirates ID. All fines linked to your ID appear there. If nothing shows, call 901 with the date and location you were stopped — they can pull it manually.
Can someone else collect it on my behalf?
Yes — but they need a signed authorisation letter from you plus their own Emirates ID, and they’ll need all the same documents. Full document list in the documents guide.
What condition will the scooter be in?
Dusty and sandy at minimum — it’s been sitting in an outdoor lot. Check brakes, display, throttle, and folding mechanism before you sign the release form. Note any damage on the form before signing if something looks wrong.
Does this affect my UAE visa or residency?
No. An e-scooter traffic fine is a traffic matter, not a criminal one. It won’t affect your visa. Pay the fine promptly though — unpaid fines can create complications at border crossings and licence renewals over time.
