How to Check E-Scooter Fines Dubai (RTA App + Pay Online 2026)

Customer came in panicking. “Police stopped me on JBR. Said I have fines. How do I check?”

I opened his phone. RTA app. Violations section. AED 700 in unpaid fines from six months ago.

Here’s exactly how to check your e-scooter fines, pay them online, and what happens if you don’t.

By Nashwa at IonicRide — We walk customers through fine checks weekly. This is the exact process, with screenshots of where to tap and what you’ll see.

Quick Answer: Three Ways to Check Fines

Check e-scooter fines via:
  1. RTA Dubai app (fastest, recommended)
  2. Dubai Police app (shows all traffic violations)
  3. RTA website (desktop option)

All three are free. All show the same fines. RTA app is easiest.

Method 1: Check Fines via RTA Dubai App (Recommended)

Step 1: Download the RTA Dubai App

1 Download:
  • App Store (iOS): Search “RTA Dubai”
  • Google Play (Android): Search “RTA Dubai”
  • Look for the official app (red/white logo)
Already have it?

If you got your e-scooter permit through the app, you already have it. Just open it and log in.

Step 2: Log In or Create Account

2 Login process:
  1. Open RTA Dubai app
  2. Tap “Login” or “Sign In”
  3. Enter Emirates ID number (for UAE residents)
  4. OR enter passport number (for tourists)
  5. Enter password (if you have an account)
  6. OR tap “Register” if first time

First time users: Registration takes 2 minutes. You’ll need Emirates ID or passport, UAE mobile number, and email.

Step 3: Navigate to Violations Section

3 Finding your fines:
  1. Once logged in, tap menu icon (☰ three lines, top left)
  2. Scroll to “Services” section
  3. Tap “Violations Inquiry”
  4. Select “E-Scooter Violations” OR “All Violations”
⚠️ Common mistake:

Don’t look under “Parking” or “Salik”. E-scooter fines are under “Violations Inquiry” → “Traffic Violations” category.

Step 4: View Your Fines

4 What you’ll see:
  • Violation date: When you got fined
  • Violation code: Number referencing the offense
  • Fine amount: How much you owe (in AED)
  • Location: Where the violation occurred
  • Status: Paid or Unpaid
  • Black points: (Usually 0 for e-scooter violations)

If you have zero violations, it’ll say: “No violations found”

If you have fines, you’ll see a list with all unpaid violations.

Method 2: Check Fines via Dubai Police App

The Dubai Police app also shows e-scooter fines (they’re classified as traffic violations).

1 Dubai Police app process:
  1. Download “Dubai Police” app
  2. Open app → Select “Services”
  3. Tap “Traffic Fines Inquiry”
  4. Enter Emirates ID or traffic file number
  5. View all violations (including e-scooter)

This shows ALL your traffic fines (car, scooter, parking, etc.) in one place.

When to use Dubai Police app:

Use this if you also drive a car. You can see all violations (car + scooter) together. Easier than checking multiple apps.

Method 3: Check Fines via RTA Website (Desktop)

Don’t have a smartphone? Use the website.

1 Website process:
  1. Go to: www.rta.ae
  2. Click “Services” in top menu
  3. Select “Traffic Fines”
  4. Enter Emirates ID or traffic file number
  5. Click “Search”
  6. View violations list

Same information as the app. Just on desktop.

  • Al Manara: Jumeirah (7 AM – 2 PM, Sat-Thu only)

Pro tip:

Avoid RTA centers on weekends and early mornings (7-9 AM). Long queues. Use the app instead – it’s free and instant.

What Happens If You Don’t Pay?

Ignoring fines has consequences.

Unpaid fine consequences:
  • After 30 days: Fine amount doubles (AED 200 becomes AED 400)
  • After 60 days: RTA blocks renewal services (license, registration, permits)
  • After 90 days: Travel ban risk (if total fines exceed AED 10,000)
  • Multiple unpaid fines: Scooter confiscation on next police stop
  • Confiscation release fee: AED 3,000 + all fines + storage fees
Customer story:

Guy ignored AED 500 in fines for 4 months. Got stopped again. Police confiscated scooter.

Release cost: AED 3,000 (release) + AED 1,000 (old fines doubled) + AED 400 (storage) = AED 4,400.

His scooter was worth AED 1,200 new. He bought a new one. Left the old one impounded.

Can You Contest E-Scooter Fines?

Yes. But rarely successful.

How to Contest a Fine

1 Objection process:
  1. Open RTA Dubai app or visit RTA center
  2. Select the violation you want to contest
  3. Tap “File Objection” or “Submit Appeal”
  4. State your reason (dropdown menu + text field)
  5. Upload evidence if you have any:
    • Photos showing you were in legal zone
    • GPS data
    • Valid permit screenshot
  6. Submit appeal
  7. Wait 7-14 days for response

When Objections Actually Work

✓ Valid Objection Reasons:

  • Wrong Emirates ID (someone else got fined, linked to you by mistake)
  • You had valid permit at time of violation (prove with app screenshot)
  • Location error (GPS shows you were in legal zone)
  • Scooter was stolen at time of violation (police report required)

✗ Objections That Fail:

  • “I didn’t know the law” (ignorance isn’t a defense)
  • “It’s my first time” (no warnings in system)
  • “The fine is too expensive” (amount is fixed by law)
  • “Police officer was rude” (doesn’t invalidate violation)
  • “Everyone else does it” (doesn’t matter)
Success rate from our customers:

15 customers filed objections. 2 succeeded (wrong Emirates ID link, stolen scooter). 13 denied.

If you’re genuinely wrong, just pay. Objection delays payment but rarely succeeds.

Discount for Early Payment

Pay fast, save money.

Early payment discount:
  • Within 7 days: 25% discount on fine amount
  • Example: AED 200 fine → Pay AED 150 if paid within 7 days
  • Only applies to: First-time violations for that offense type

The discount shows automatically in the app when you go to pay.

Smart move:

Check fines weekly via app. If you get one, pay within 7 days for 25% discount.

Set a phone reminder: “Check RTA fines” every Sunday morning.

Do E-Scooter Fines Affect Your Driving License?

Mostly no. With exceptions.

Impact on driving license:
  • Standard fines (AED 200-300): No black points, no license impact
  • Reckless riding (AED 500): 4 black points added to license
  • DUI on scooter (AED 2,000+): 24 black points, license suspension risk
  • Causing injury: Case-by-case, can affect license

If you don’t have a driving license, black points don’t apply to you (no license to point).

But if you later apply for a license, unpaid fines will block your application.

Common Questions About E-Scooter Fines

Can tourists get e-scooter fines?

Yes. Fines are linked to passport number if you don’t have Emirates ID.

Unpaid fines can block you at airport immigration on exit. Pay before leaving UAE.

Do rental scooters (Lime/Tier) get fines?

Yes. The fine goes to whoever rented the scooter at that time.

Rental companies will charge your card for the fine + admin fee (usually AED 50).

Can I check someone else’s fines?

No. You can only check fines linked to your own Emirates ID or passport.

Unless you have their login credentials, which is not recommended for privacy reasons.

How long do fines stay on record?

Forever, until paid. Fines from 2020 still show up if unpaid.

Once paid, they move to “Paid Violations” history but never disappear completely.

Can I pay fines in installments?

No. Full payment only.

If you have multiple fines, you can pay them one at a time, but each individual fine must be paid in full.

How to Avoid Fines (Prevention Guide)

Better to avoid fines than pay them.

Never get fined again:
  1. Get your permit/license FIRST before riding
  2. Only ride in legal zones (21 designated areas)
  3. Stay under 20 km/h in enforcement zones (JBR, Marina)
  4. Don’t carry passengers ever
  5. Helmet if under 18 (or just always wear one)
  6. Avoid tourist areas on weekends (peak enforcement)
  7. Keep permit screenshot saved in phone photos for quick access
⚠️ ENFORCEMENT PATTERN

Police target:

  • JBR/Marina on Friday/Saturday evenings
  • Downtown during Dubai Shopping Festival
  • Main roads during morning rush hour

They don’t patrol:

  • Residential areas (Dubai Hills, Arabian Ranches)
  • Early mornings (6-8 AM)
  • Weekdays in non-tourist zones
